They have large wings that are often colored and bright in some species, six jointed legs, 3 body parts, an exoskeleton, a pair of antennae, and compound eyes. The three body parts are the head, the thorax (chest), and the abdomen (tail). Its four wings and six legs are attached to the thorax, which contains the muscles to make them move. Its body is covered by tiny sensory hairs as well. Their wings are covered with colorful scales in overlapping rows; they are the only insects that have scaly wings.
